Do I have to book in advance?

Please reserve online to book your Clear Kayak rental so we can ensure you get everything you need.

Can we go on our own?
Absolutely! You are your own guide!
We offer a luxury, kayak rental experience! Our crew will handle all of the lifting, provide a lesson, and point out our favorite spots to go! We even assist with launching and landing the boats, which is really the only tricky part. Once you are on the water you have 2 full hours to paddle anywhere you want. This really allows you to get away from the crowds and make your experience all your own!
What about cancelling or bad weather?
Rain is rare! Safety and fun first!
Luckily Makena Landing is pretty well blocked from rain clouds and the wind.
We check the conditions in person at sunrise. If there are large waves, strong wind, or moderate to heavy rain we will call and email all of our guests and attempt to reschedule for a day that looks more fun (Usually calls go out before 7am). If you cannot reschedule you won’t be charged for your reservation.
Our guests having a good time is what makes our business successful! We will never encourage guests to go in unsafe conditions.

Our cancellation policy: Up to 24 hours prior to your reservation you can change or cancel for any reason for a full refund. Inside of 24 hours, Clear Kayaks Maui charges the full amount of the reservation. This is because we have blocked other guest from reserving our kayaks and we have staffed based on the number of kayaks reserved. No shows will also be charged the full amount.Book Online Now!
Who can participate in clear bottom kayaking?
Family fun for everyone!
No experience necessary!! Our Clear Kayaks are great for people of all ages and all abilities! This is a great family activity, especially if you have small children. Our kayaks are very stable, and because you sit lower in the kayak, it is very easy to have small children ride in a parents lap. We require all children over 3 years old to have their own seat. We also have life jackets that fit all sizes but infants.
Do I need to have training before kayaking?
Nope! No sweat!
Our Clear Bottom Kayaks are very easy to use and very stable on the water. The only tricky park may be launching the kayaks into the water. But, don’t worry! We do that for you! Our instructors will also take you through a quick tutorial to ensure that you get the most out of your Clear Bottom Kayak rental experience. Once you are in the water, the kayaks are very easy to maneuver. Since you can see through the bottom, going slow is GREAT! The more you take your time, the more you are likely to see! Best of all, the best places to see Turtles are a very short paddle from where we launch!Book Online Now!
Will I get tired quickly?
Most likely not.
The most abundant sea life is only a few short yards away from our launch site.
And the best part is, the slower you go, the more you’ll see!
The joy of this kayak experience is in the beauty of the ocean life below. Many people enjoy the calm simplicity of floating above the ocean underworld while soaking in the sun!
When is the best time of day to experience Clear Kayaks?
A great start to any morning!
Maui’s marine life are early risers! The best time of day to see plenty of marine activity is early in the morning before the wind picks up and the ocean becomes a little more choppy.

What can we expect to see when we’re out on the water?
Turtle Town!
Makena Landing is also known locally as “Turtle Town”. There is an abundance of green Hawaiian sea turtles. Other sea life in the area that is often spotted include:
- Manta rays
- Spotted eagle rays
- Octopus (tako)
- Eels
- Reef fish
- Spinner dolphins
- White-tip reef sharks (don’t worry, they’re tiny!)
- Humpback whales (from December through April)

What is the maximum weight limit?
Maui’s only Clear Bottom Kayaks!
The maximum capacity of our boats is 450 pounds. However, we do recommend that all groups over 420 pounds get an additional boat. Groups that exceed 420 pounds more often than not will completely fill the boat with water. While this will not sink the boat, it makes for a poor experience due to the difficulty paddling that this causes. Yes, our kayaks are tandem kayaks but if you and your paddling partner need to spit into separate boats they can be paddled with one person just as easily as two.
What if I am late?
We will get you on the water as soon as you arrive!
Many of our guests are late and it will not cause you to lose your rental. With that being said please understand that your rental is for your reserved time slot not for 2 hours after you arrive.Book Online Now!
